CSU Trophy Saddles

Manufacture Date: Winter 2008/09

Tree Style: Bowden Brand Association 15 1/2” Seat

Specifications: Natural skirting leather and brown latigo, bleached rawhide stirrup covers, horn and Cheyenne roll  cantle binding and a forest green inlaid padded suede seat. Tree has a #4 post dally horn and a 4”x13” regular oval cantle. Design is 3/4” basket stamped with a sunburst border. Cam the Ram logo is carved on the stirrup fenders along with trophy lettering reading ’Champion 2009.’ All parts are edge dyed brown. Hardware is solid brass Bork hardware; using a three position flat plate front rigging and 2 1/2” rear dees. Included matching steer tripper breast collar, flank cinch and custom strung 100% mohair cinch.

Tree has a #4 post dally horn and a 4”x13” regular oval cantle. Design is geometric tooled with a pinstripe border colored forest green. Cam the Ram logo is carved on the stirrup fenders along with trophy lettering reading ’Champion 2010.’ All parts are edge dyed brown. Hardware is solid brass using a double dee rigging. Included matching steer tripper breast collar, flank cinch and custom strung 100% mohair cinch.

2010 Edition

Tree Style: Timberline Wade 15 1/2” Seat

Specifications: Natural skirting leather and brown latigo, bleached rawhide stirrup covers, horn and Cheyenn roll cantle binding. Rough out seat and fenders with exposed stirrup leathers. Tree has a wood post horn 3 1/2” high with a 3” cap. Design is geometric tooling with a sunburst border on the skirts, jockeys, rigging, stirrup leathers and fork. ‘Cam the Ram’ logo and trophy lettering ‘2011 Champion’ are carved and painted green on the stirrup fenders. Also included are forest green suede bucking rolls. Hardware is solid brass Bork hardware; using a flat plate drop rigging in front and 2 1/2” rear dees. Included matching pulling collar style breast collar and flank cinch.

Each year Colorado State University has a colt training competition that is the culmination of two semesters of in class horse training completed by about thirty students. Each student is assigned to and trains a colt or filly which is then sold as part of the Legends of Ranching Performance Horse Sale. Iddings Makers is a co-sponsor and the saddle maker for the trophy saddle awarded to the student who trains the best performing horse. Below is our collection of trophy saddles, the 2011 Edition is now finished and on display at the Equine Center. Good luck to the students, we will see you all in April.
